Building their own simple music instrument is one way for your child to explore their crafty side, while simultaneously discovering their musical capabilities. The homemade kazoo is comprised of various household objects and is easy to make.  Let your child delve into the world of sound with this quick and fun project!

Materials:
A cardboard tube (empty toilet paper or paper towel roll)
Wax paper
Sharp object (pencil, etc..) to poke holes in the tube
A rubber band
Art supplies to decorate the kazoo

How to make your kazoo:

1. Cover one end of the cardboard tube with wax paper. Wrap the rubber band around the paper to secure it to the tube.

2. With your sharp object, poke a hole in the side of the tube.

3. Let your child decorate it however they want to. Use stickers, paint, or markers to add flare to the instrument.

4. To play the kazoo, put your mouth on the open end of the tube and hum. You can also repeatedly say the word “do” for the same effect.

Have fun with this craft! Let your child make up different tunes on their kazoo and teach you how to play!
