Recognizing Numbers with Bingo

Put an exciting and educational spin on the classic bingo game! This version of bingo from education.com will help your child practice recognizing numbers and will also put their listening skills to the test.

What you’ll need:
· Empty oatmeal container
· One piece of thin cardboard or thick paper
· Scissors
· Marker
· Paper
· Ink dot maker (or marker)
· Prizes (such as candy or pencils)

How to play:
1. Cut the thick paper or cardboard into small squares, each measuring approximately 1 inch to 1 ½ inches. On each square, write a number ranging from 1 to 25. If your child’s counting skills are at a higher level, use numbers ranging from 1-50, or 1-100. Put all of the numbers in the empty oatmeal container and set aside.

2. Using a ruler, make a grid with 5 vertical lines and 5 horizontal lines across on the sheet of paper, to equal 25 boxes in total.

3. On each square, write a number in a random order. Make sure that the numbers you write on the grid will match up to the numbers that you have placed in the oatmeal canister. If your child wants to practice writing their numbers, have them help you with this step.

4. Once the grid is full of numbers, the game can begin! Make sure your child has a dot maker along with their grid.

5. Withdraw one number from the oatmeal container at a time. If the number you have called out is on your child’s grid, let them put an ink dot on that number. Once your child has filled in five consecutive squares either diagonally, vertically, or horizontally, they can yell “Bingo!” and receive their prize!

This game is a great way to incorporate education into your child’s birthday party or your family game night!
