DIY Winter Body Scrub

Houston is by no means a frozen tundra, but it can sure feel that way with the cold winds and sporadic winter temperatures all season. Other than busting out the heavier moisturizer when my skin starts to feel dry, I also like to give myself a soothing winter full body scrub (I try to do this once a week, along with my weekly facial, see the DIY spa night blog!).

I found my original body scrub recipe from Unplugged Sunday, overtime you can perfect your own scrub so it’s just the way you like it. Here are your main ingredients:

  • Sea Salt, about four cups
  • Unsaturated Coconut Oil (Saturated Coconut Oil is fine as well, but you’ll need to also add a tablespoon of Grape seed Oil to your mixture so doesn’t harden in the jar.)
  • Essential Oil (whatever smell is your favorite and most soothes you, I use Lemon or Lavender)
  • Food Processor
  • Bowl and Spoon
  • A small Jar with Lid

First, I crunch up the course salt in the processor, testing it to get the best consistency, keep in mind you don’t want the granules to be too small, the salt needs to exfoliate your skin.

Then I pour the salt and the coconut oil into a bowl, mixing the oil in slowly to make sure there’s just enough oil for the mixture to stick together, but too much so that it’s soupy.

After that, just add a few drops of your essential oil into the mix and keep in your small jar next to the shower! My skin always feels silky smooth and refreshed, enjoy and let me know how you created your body scrub.

This sounds great. I’ll definitely give it a try. So many store bought moisturizing products include some form of alcohol, which makes no sense to me, Especially because I have very dry sensitive skin.

I use pure olive oil instead of coconut oil. The kind you get at whole foods mkt.

I’ll have to keep that in mind Theresa, I’m glad you’re a fan of the DIY scrub. It’s one of my favorites, I tend to have sensitive skin too!
