Do you obsessively watch Cake Boss, Cupcake Wars, or Ace of Cakes? If you’re dying to learn how those masters make such beautiful creations from pantry ingredients and baking skills, you should check out a local cake decorating class! There are actually a few different options around Houston, from group and company parties, to individual classes and private lessons, so grab your girlfriends, or head out by yourself and get ready to learn how to be a master cake decorator.

The Cake Craft Shoppe offers varying levels of classes for all sorts of different applications. They have classes on whimsical cakes, petit fours, cake pops, pie, fondant, and private lessons if you’re the type who needs a bit more hands on work with an instructor one on one. They also have guest instructor classes from top sugar artists throughout the year you can join once you have some basic know-how under your belt. You can go online and sign up, or call 281-491-3920 for more information on their classes.

Leisure Learning Unlimited offers classes for almost everything, and cake decorating is no exception! Debra Wallace teaches Creative Cake Decorating at two different levels that last three hours a single Saturday and are offered about once a month. If you’re only able to get away for a couple hours on weekends, this is the perfect fun activity!

If you find you’re really interested after taking classes, you can always join the Houston Cake Club. They meet each month at Larry’s Arts and Crafts in Pasadena to discuss upcoming classes, cake decorating tips and general cake fun! You can become a member, which gets you a discount card good at local cake supply stores and access to a special “members only” section of their website, as well as a discount on club sponsored classes once you have been a member for six months.

These are all great ways to get your hands on some sugar and start creating delicious, tasty, food art! You can show off your skills by offering to make the cake the next time someone invites you to their birthday, or cakes for your own kid’s parties. The options are endless, and who knows, maybe you were meant to be the next cake decorating master?
