This coming weekend, in honor of national Shark Week—the longest-running cable television programming event in history—Downtown Aquarium is hosting an event that takes Shark Week to the next level.

Houston’s Downtown Aquarium has five themed areas, a tiger habitat, theme-park rides, a Ferris Wheel that gives you a gorgeous view of Houston, an upscale fine-dining restaurant, and gallons and gallons of fish and marine life from all over the world. In fact, the 110,000 gallon cylindrical restaurant aquarium centerpiece is the largest cylindrical tank in the United States.

200,000 of those gallons are devoted to their shark exhibit, a separate exhibit from the mesmerizing fish displays. This is sure to be the epicenter of fun this Shark Weekend, and Downtown Aquarium has a few other tricks up their sleeve, as well!

Houston’s Downtown Aquarium doesn’t just sport fish, either. In the Maharaja Temple, you can find two beautiful white tigers. In the Louisiana Swamp exhibit there are alligators, bullfrogs and alligator snapping turtles; the Shipwreck exhibit houses a giant Pacific octopus and a moray eel; the Rainforest has stingrays, piranha, poison arrow frogs, birds and an emerald tree boa. The Sunken temple even has tarantulas, an electric eel and a reticulated python. And there are touch tanks with all manner of sharks, fish, rays, crabs—all the things you wish they’d let you feel!

In addition to all the inherent fun of an aquatic zoo and theme park with Landry’s seafood delicacies, there will be Shark Divers from whom you’ll have the chance to ask questions and learn fun facts. There will also be Shark Arts & Crafts, shark prizes, live entertainment and dive shows!

So while you’re catching up on hours of amazing shark programming, stop by the Downtown Aquarium August 16th-17th and see how they do it on the Discovery Channel!
