There are mornings where I feel like crazy person, running around like a chicken with my head cut off. “Where are the shoes that go with this outfit? And what in the world will I do with the rat’s nest of hair?” Are a few choice thoughts that have run through my head when I was terribly late, and adding the kids to the mix can be a waking nightmare.

But, there are a few things I’ve mastered other than hitting the snooze button. The power of preparation and will power is everything! Here are some tips I cling to when I’m off to a rough start:

Alarm: Make that alarm go off! Place it completely on the other side of your bedroom if you have to, and set multiple alarms, so you won’t worry about sleeping through the first one.

Morning Hygiene: If you’re a morning shower person, and it absolutely cannot be avoided, grab your toothbrush and toothpaste before you hop in and get to multitasking! This will help shave a few minutes off your time.

If you need to wash your hair but know you won’t have the time the next morning, grab your dry shampoo, (A MUST IN EVERY LADIES ARSNEL) and apply it to your roots the night before, so you’re ready to run a comb through it and go.

Also! Be able to do your favorite updo, braid, ponytail, quickly, so you won’t have to worry about hating your finished product and wasting time attempting something else.

Makeup: This is where you’ll really need to be prepared; it’s make it or break it time! Completely streamline your makeup routine, cut out any unnecessary steps, (I’ll skip my primer, and choose between brush and bronzer, not both) and practice, practice, practice. Know how long your routine will take you, so you know which steps you need to skip. Have all your go-to makeup laid out the night before, just in case.

Your Outfit: If you intend to hit the gym in the morning, but have difficultly getting up and going, sleep in your clean gym clothes! You’re going to sweat in them later anyway, why not wear them to bed. Most of my “sleepwear,” and “gym wear,” are pretty synonymous, but I’d save your sports bra for the morning if it starts to bother you.

Next, lay your clothes for the day the night before, even your underwear, jacket and shoes. Have your entire outfit planned out, so you can either put it on and go, or throw them into your gym bag for later. You may feel the urge to switch it around in the morning, don’t. Keep your choice from last night, and head to the next morning challenge.

Breakfast: These rushed mornings can be most detrimental to your diet. You’ll want to swing by that Starbucks and pick up a pastry and your cup of morning whatnot. But don’t let them get to you! Get your coffee pot and chosen meal as ready to go as possible, so all you have to do it switch on the machine, and start munching away. Your diet will thank you!
