Spring has sprung and that means trips, falls, bumps ,and bruises as the kids journey back outside for those longer summer days. Kids are notorious for getting mysterious bruises and cuts, and when that day comes, there is nothing more convenient than a home remedy. To avoid an overflowing medicine cabinet or multiple trips to the drug store, use the following five natural tips to help soothe your child’s boo boos.

1. If your child is stung by a bee, chop up a white onion and rub one of the raw pieces on the sting site for 5 minutes. This will help to prevent infection, while also reducing pain, as it draws the poison away from the sting.

2. An easy way to ease the pain of a lip cut is to give your child a popsicle. Sucking on the popsicle will help the cut to clot, subsequently stopping any bleeding. If there’s a sensitive area on your child’s private parts, give them a bowl of ice cream and have them keep it on their laps to numb the area slightly.

3. Rub toothpaste onto your child’s bug bites to stop the itching.

4. If you’re looking to relieve hives, eczema, or just itchy skin give your child an oatmeal bath. Grind oatmeal into a fine powder and pour into the warm running water as it fills up a bath. Let your child soak in the tub to alleviate the itching associated with these skin afflictions.

5. Vanilla extract (artificial is okay) can prevent bruising.  Rub some vanilla extract onto a bump and your child should stay bruise-free.

These tricks will make treating your little rascal much easier! Refer to these remedies first, as they are more cost-effective then the array of first-aid products you will find at the store.

It really does help, and the toothpaste gives a soothing, cooling sensation. I’ll even put some on the occasional zit to reduce redness. Thank you for sharing Teresa!

Honey helps clot blood and kills bacteria and doesn’t sting the lil ones! 😉
