It’s that time of year again…people’s lawns are full of cobwebs, tombstones and witches. You’re still trying to figure out how to turn your kids into the super hero/Disney character of their choice and how you’re going to keep them from making themselves sick on candy for the next month. Take a night off and celebrate Halloween for yourself by having a terrifying date night with your main squeeze, and try not to literally squeeze them to death! We found some of Houston’s best haunts, ranging from actual haunted houses, which will be open until the beginning of November to little known haunted spots around Houston. This way you can get your chills and thrills any time of the year if you’re feeling adventurous.

Battleship Texas
Right near the Houston Ship Channel is the floating monument to those who fought and died in both world wars, Battleship Texas. Many claims of paranormal activity have been reported here, including inexplicable noises, an eery floating vapor in photos, and the feeling of someone passing right by you. According to some, the ghost of a friendly sailor will sometimes appear on the second deck to greet you. Check it out, if you dare…This is a great spot to check out some local history.

Spaghetti Warehouse
Named as one of the most haunted places in the U.S. by Citysearch and Real Simple Magazine, this downtown Houston building has a long and sordid past. Previously having been used as storage for fur pelts, then as a warehouse for pharmaceuticals, the eerie vibe began when a young pharmacist accidentally fell down the elevator shaft to his death. His wife was so distraught with grief that she died only one year later. Apparently both souls still haunt the building, walking through and rearranging furniture, placing dishes and silverware all over, and sometimes even tapping guests or pulling their hair. If that doesn’t give you chills, I don’t know what will! You can spend a nice evening having dinner here with your significant other and maybe catch a strange white figure in your photos together.

La Carafe
La Carafe is a charming building located at Market Square Park that is absolutely perfect for a glass of wine and a romantic date night…so long as you don’t mind Carl, the long deceased bartender, stomping about and breaking glass on occasion. Many reports say they feel chilly spots in the bathroom, or can often hear large furniture being moved around in the completely vacant second story. Quite often, one can catch a glimpse of Carl after closing peering out from his second story window. Swing by soon to possibly catch some jazz, a nice glass of wine from their great selection and say hi to Carl for us.

Of course, what would Halloween be without really trying to scare yourself silly at one of the many haunted houses in town? Yeah, they’re a bit cheesy, but they’re good for some screams and snuggle time with your companions, so why not go and remind yourself what it was like to fear turning the lights off at bedtime at the Phobia Haunted Houses, Screamworld, or The Haunted Trails.

Hope you can muster the courage to check out any of these neat spots around town that have rich history, even if they are a bit creepy at times. Maybe grab a bite to eat and then head to the haunted houses? Or leave the kids with a sitter after daytime trick or treating and sip some wine at La Carafe to end an evening. Whatever you do, have fun this fall!
